My grandmother and her sister were masters of the guilt trip and the cutting remark. My grandma's favorite line was "what will people think?" - no matter what I said or did, it somehow would reflect badly on "the family". I think part of my attraction to the witnesses was the knowledge that becoming a dub would give me a lifetime free pass from dealing with the holiday bull**** they wanted to inflict on me. I wish I had just grown the balls I needed back then rather than joining the borg.

Any belief system that discourages a student from interacting with others and teaches them from day one to regurgitate canned responses on command is going to be of great help in getting through public school in the US. However, once that person is out of school, the complete inability to actually think is quite a hindrance. Also, the lack of experience in forming relationships and working with a variety of people is a problem.

I had a hawk or some similar bird dive bomb my car once - completely broke off the windshield wiper. I was freaked out because I didn't see the bird until right before it hit. I was driving down the interstate when it happened.

there is nothing wrong with enjoying sex. you don't have to be a puritanical perpetual virgin to have worth and dignity.

I've entered the embarrassing stage of pregnancy - let's have a laugh :)
by freshstart inso as you get farther along in your pregnancy and you get bigger and bigger, certain bodily functions are hard to control.
the other day my husband, son and i went out for a nice lunch.
we were dressed up and really enjoying ourselves, when it happened.

Um.. hi, everyone
by Vidiot in...again.... ...despite the fact that i doubt anyone here will even really remember me, i actually feel kinda embarrassed coming back here after just up and stopping over a year ago with nary an explanation; its a long story... suffice it to say, my life kinda went to hell in a handbasket, but its a little bit back on track, now, plus my immediate family (excluding my devout jw mom) is just as out as me.
thats something.. i never stopped missing the conversations i had here, and started lurking again shortly before the wtss current shitstorm got started.
id forgotten my password, though, and only just figured out what it was again.. one thing about leaving jwn i feel really bad about was the fact that i made a really good friend in poopsiecakes, and then suddenly cut off all contact; i owe her a huge apology and a decent explanation (assuming shes ever willing to speak with me again).. .

My Son ask me about JWN
by Think About It ini'm visiting my son and we got on the topic of me raising him in the jw's.
i apologized and told him at the time i thought it was the right thing to do, but that i got them out before it was too late.
he assured me it was only a matter of time before he would have left the religion.

When Was The Last Time You Bought or Sold A Piece Of Jewelry Or A Diamond item?
by minimus inwith all the high gas prices and job layoffs, i'm curious as to when the last was that you bought fine jewelry.
also, when was the last time you sold old gold?

I have never owned anything that could be classified as "fine jewelry". The most expensive thing I've ever owned is a replacement wedding ring set that cost less than $300. I don't have any particular interest in expensive jewelry - the fake stuff suits me fine. I sold an old watch about a year ago for $45 - it was in a box of costume jewelry left behind in a house we bought. I sold off my personal gold jewelry 3 or 4 years ago - I never wore any of it and it wasn't worth anything at all to me, I got a few hundred dollars for it.

I'm sure Just Ron was never appointed as an MS or given any "privileges" is because my field circus time was too low and irregular. I always thought that was pretty unfair, judging a man based on his wife's actions (or lack thereof). After all, the current COBOE's wife isn't baptized, doesn't go in service, and isn't on the ministry school.
